The T23 uses PC133 RAM, vs. PC100 in your present T20, and the T30 uses PC2100 DDR. ---- > I was wondering how I can enable the Ethernet port at the back of > my Thinkpad i.e. near the power jack and USB port. You can get a new battery from IBM parts (800 SHOPIBM) and ask for part no. 02K6572. Easily installed, no necessity for sending the unit in. Turn the T20 over and remove the main battery. Inside the battery compartment you'll see a small coin type battery holder secured with one screw. Remove the screw and the holder and disconnect the battery. Replace with the new battery and re-assemble. You'll have to reset your CMOS settings on the next BOOT. ---- Subject: Re: specs of Thinkpad models Reply-To: nospam@atall.xatt.net On Fri, 25 Apr 2003 20:04:09 -0400, "Steven" <who@wants.to.know> wrote: >Each one of those models has dozens of permutations - it would be an awesome >spreadsheet to encompass the whole TP family. > Something like this, perhaps? ftp://ftp.pc.ibm.com/pcicrse/psref/ tabook/tawbook - A/T/X series tbook/twbook - 2xx, 3xx, 5xx, 600, 7xx, 8xx series tibook/tiwbook - i series trbook/trwbook - R series ---- Subject: Re: specs of Thinkpad models another way to check specs is if you know your model # http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_2366b2u (i have the 2366-B2U) all you have to do is replace 2366b2u with whatever your machine type is 236692u works, as does many other ones i've looked up (not sure if it will work for older machines though -- its worked for all the T30 & T40 machines i've looked up as well as the X series) ---- Subject: Replacement Trackpoint Caps Just sharing information in the thought that others might find it useful. (in the spirit of comp.sys.palmtops.pilot) I've gone through a couple of different companies to replace the Trackpoint cap on my T20. While I now prefer trackpoint over a touchpad, the little cap that came with the T20 felt uncomfortable and small. The following is a summary of my experience with replacement caps. If you're not interested in replacing your trackpoint cap, thanks for your time and you can stop reading now. My first "replacement' was a very nice idea, but it doesn't hold up. While I can't remember the company name at the moment, the replacement cap was a gel-type cap that felt soft and comfortable. It claimed to reduce finger stress. I found this to be true. I also found it to be a bit too big for the keyboard, and it always bound one of the three keys around it. Straight out of the box, I had to modify it to make it useable - or else live with sticking b, g, & h keys. I also found that after about 2 months of constant use, it developed terminal problems. The top got so slippery that I couldn't get any traction on it with my fingertip, which makes it hard to move the mouse. I also found that as the material aged, the sides got softer and it became increasingly difficult to move the mouse and took an increasing amount of effort - particularly to move the mouse to the bottom of the screen. Flash forward to this month: Recently, I checked the IBM website for information on replacement caps. The page directed me to www.compu-lock.com. It now turns out that IBM has 3 different caps - the original, one with a lip around the top, and a domed cap with little bumps on it. I ordered the domed caps, figuring that since traction is my biggest complaint, the bumps would help. The new cap fit my old T20 perfectly (as well it should!). It's crown is about 1.5 times the size of the original, which makes a lot of difference for comfort. I immediately noticed an increase in accuracy and easy of use - and it doesn't bind any of the adjacent keys. And I've noticed a decrease in cursor drift, which I know is endemic to trackpoints but was aggravated by the gel cap. ---- From their website: $13.95 for 4, plus $6.50 shipping.
